On Wednesday morning, the city of Charleston celebrated the opening of new water taxi dock with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The city paid $419,237 for the dock and has a non-exclusive agreement with Charleston Water Taxi. According to Mayor Joseph Riley, the dock was paid for from funds received from online travel companies.

"The water taxi is a wonderful opportunity for the citizens of Charleston and those who visit, to use our harbor as a means of transportation to go to points of interest," Riley said. "We've got visitors who are in the market area or residents who would like to go to Patriots Point and they don't have to get in their car."

There already are three other stops in the Harbor, however workers with Charleston Water Taxi said the new stop means people downtown don't have to walk 15-minutes to the Maritime Center.

The ferry runs between 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Passengers can catch a ferry every hour. For a schedule, visit:
