Maren Morris tearfully spoke about her newly-released children’s book, co-authored with writer, former educator and friend Karina ArgowAddie Ant Goes on an Adventure, which includes illustrations by Kelly Anne Dalton, arrived on Tuesday (April 9). The two authors sat down with CBS Mornings co-hosts Gayle King, Tony Dokoupil and Nate Burleson to talk about the book.

Morris said she “can’t emotionally handle it” as she shared a clip of her CBS Mornings interview on TikTok. The Grammy Award-winning artist quickly began to cry as King introduced her and Argow on the show. “I’m like, already crying. I think I’m like, PMSing or something,” Morris said as she wiped tears from her eyes. She turned to Argow and said, “please talk for me.”

“Karina’s on the road with me when I tour, so we had a long drive on the bus back one night from Canada, and she would com on my bus those long trips and we would just talk for hours until sunrise most days,” Morris said during the CBS Mornings interview. “I just, you know, my son’s 4 now, and I love reading to him, and we have a lot of favorites in our house. But I’ve always wanted to do some sort of children’s book or children’s album. I just love children’s music, and obviously the books. And then Karina’s like, ‘well, I have a whole cast of characters in my head because I garden all the time and I just create bugs in my head that have names.’ I was like, ‘well, that’s hard the work is already done!’”

Morris and Argow aims to share a message with children to embrace curiosity, ask questions and embark on adventures in life while also recognizing how to ask for help and which people to trust. They’ve already started their second book, Morris said as she spoke about her friendship with Argow, who has helped support the singer through her recent divorce, Morris noted on the show.

The “Circles Around This Town” artist, who celebrates her 34th birthday on Wednesday (April 10), kicked off her book tour with Argow. They hosted a virtual event on Monday (April 8). See the list of book tour dates below.
