You may not be familiar with Portia Clark but her story is one of falling up. The singer-songwriter met Darius Rucker at a gala for the Starkey Hearing Foundation in 2013. Clark wrote the theme song for the foundation,“So the World May Hear,”and during their meeting, Rucker handed her a Corona beer,“like I was just ‘one of the guys,”says Clark. That’s when she asked him to record with her.
The two met up in 2018 in Nashville to record, “Ready To Fall,” which is featured on Clark’sChapters of my Soul album. The album highlights Clark’s life, including being the daughter of a freedom fighter who worked with Nelson Mandela’s ANC party. She lived in poverty, learned to sing in church at the age of 8, by 17 Clark had a baby and had been physically and emotionally abused by the father of the child.
Clark's success began at 19 while working as a bagger at Shoprite Checkers where she competed in a singing contest and won Top Female Vocalist. She later married her biggest cheerleader Australian entrepreneur and philanthropist Brendan Clark in 2017.
