Volunteer engagement is a critical component of the Conservancy’s Integrated Weed Management Plan and ability to properly manage our parks without the use of toxic chemicals that can harm wildlife, pets and our community.
In June, the Conservancy brought back one of our popular volunteer opportunities – Weeding Wednesdays. Each week from 5pm-7pm, volunteers gather at Colonial Lake to help us remove large swaths of weeds in preparation for mulching and more planting as we complete the installation of the Idea Garden at Colonial Lake.
The Conservancy provides music, snacks and fun (non-alcoholic) drinks to make Weeding Wednesday a relaxing time to gather with friends and neighbors after work and help the Conservancy complete our revitalization of the three acres of gardens at Colonial Lake.
In June, 63 volunteers attended Weeding Wednesday and contributed an incredible 126 hours of service thus far!
Join us for some upcoming Weeding Wednesday partner events:
July 9: We are partnering with the always generous D’Allesandro’s Pizza who will be providing some delicious bites after we finish weeding! The fun starts at 5pm.
July 16: Local organization Charleston Green Drinks is partnering with us to bring additional volunteers to pull weeds, as well as co-hosting a post-weeding social at Blind Tiger Pub.
Be sure to sign up to join the fun!
