Subtropical Storm Alberto Forms In Caribbean Sea, Heavy Rainfall Expected

The National Hurricane Center says a storm that was being monitored in the Caribbean has officially formed.

On Friday morning, the NHC has tweeted that Subtropical Storm Alberto has formed over the northwestern Caribbean Sea and is moving toward the Gulf of Mexico.

The storm is expected to bring wet weather to South Carolina throughout Memorial Day weekend with the worst of it being Sunday and Monday. The system is expected to stay to the west of  Florida as it moves through the Gulf of Mexico.

Alberto is the first official tropical system of the year. 

The official 2018 Atlantic Hurricane Season begins on June 1.
