Ohio Father Makes Daughter Walk Five Miles to School For Bullying on Bus

dad makes 10-year-old walk 5 miles to school after she gets kicked off of bus

An Ohio father who made his 10-year-old daughter walk five miles to school as punishment for bullying another student on the bus has stirred up controversy among parents online.

On Monday, Matt Cox, of Swanton, Ohio, shared video of him inside his vehicle trailing behind his 10-year-old daughter - the reason? She was walking to school in the frigid temps because she had been kicked off the bus for the second time after bullying another student.

Cox told his viewers that he wouldn't be driving her to school, and that she would have to face the consequences of her actions. She would have to walk the five miles to her school during her three-day suspension in 36-degree weather as punishment.

"Let me make this extremely clear, bullying is unacceptable, especially in my household," Cox told viewers in the Facebook video

"I know a lot of you parents are not going to agree with this, but that is alright because I’m doing what I feel is right to teach my daughter a lesson and to stop her from bullying," said Cox. "Bullying is unacceptable."

“A lot of children today feel that the things their parents do for them is a right and not a privilege, such as parents taking their children to school in the morning. Or even bus rides to school in the morning. All of that is a privilege and should be treated as such. So today my beautiful daughter is going to walk five miles to school in 36-degree weather.”

Because this was his daughter's second offense, Cox said it needed to never happen again.

"This is my small way of trying to stop it in my household," Cox said.

To some, the punishment by Cox seemed overly harsh, with one commenter worrying for the 10-year-old's health after walking five miles in the cold. However, many others applauded the Ohio dad's style of parenting, with parents of bullies and those who have been bullied both thanking him for the lessons he was trying to teach his daughter.

Updating the description, Cox said his daughter survived the five-mile walk to school and that he believed she learned her lesson.

UPDATE: lesson learned! Still has all her extremities intact is happy and healthy and seems to have a new outlook on bullying as well as a new appreciation for some of the simple things in life she used to take for granted
