CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for Orangeburg County after radar detected a severe storm capable of producing a tornado.
The warning is in effect for central Orangeburg, central Bamberg and southeastern Calhoun Counties until 3:15 p.m. Radar spotted the storm at 2:47 p.m. over Bamberg and moving northeast at 50 mph.
Severe thunderstorm warning for Colleton, Beaufort Counties
The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Colleton, Beaufort, Hampton and Jasper Counties in southeastern South Carolina.
At 2:47 p.m., severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Luray to near Shawnee, Georgia, moving northeast at 45 mph. The storms are producing wind gusts of up to 60 mph with damage to trees and power lines possible.
Trees reported down in strong winds
The National Weather Service released reports of multiple trees down in Dorchester County. The agency listed these locations where trees had fallen:
- Beech Hill Road at Sprucewood Drive
- 100 block of Blossom Street
- Old Spell Road near Highway 15 South
- 300 block of Clarks Hill Drive with power line involvement
- 100 block of Elmwood Avenue
- 2300 block of Highway 78
- 100 block of Hudson Road
Drivers are urged to use caution when driving through windy conditions. If you see downed power lines, call 911. Do not approach them as they may still be live.
