A popular pre-packaged sandwich sold in South Carolina has been recalled over a potential health risk.
Cromer Food Services, Inc. issued a recall of its CFS Cromer Food Service brand Chicken Salad on White Sandwich due to the presence of undeclared milk, according to a recall notice shared by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration. This could post a "serious or life-threatening" risk of an allergic reaction for consumers with an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk.
According to the company's statement, the error was discovered in a routine inspection that found the ingredients for the bread, which included the milk allergen, were not listed on the label.
The recall affects all lots of the CFS Chicken Salad on White Sandwich with a UPC 31166 and UPC 13172 with a "Use By" date of anywhere between 1/03/2025 (1/03) and 04/01/2025 (4/02). The products, packaged in clear plastic containers, were distributed between December 26, 2024, and March 24, 2025 and sold "primarily in Micro Markets and Vending Machines" in Georgia and South Carolina.
As of March 27, there have been no reported illnesses in connection to the recall. Consumers can return the products to the place of purchase for a full refund, and anyone with questions can contact Cromer Food Services, Inc. at 1-800-92203174.
