Kelly Clarkson gushed over The War and Treaty when the powerhouse duo appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Thursday (April 10).
Clarkson introduced the married duo — made up of husband and wife Michael Trotter Jr. and Tanya Trotter — known for their “unique blend” of music genres (including gospel, soul, country and folk), their history-making CMA and ACM nominations and more. The War and Treaty joined Clarkson for a brief chat before they performed “Tunnel Vision” from their latest studio record, and Clarkson kicked it off with a heartfelt message for Tanya.
“I gotta start with you, ma’am, because this is real,” Clarkson said. “The whole reason I fell in love with harmony is you taking that lower part in Sister Act 2. That scene is literally the pivotal moment of why I fell in love — why I joined choir, why I love harmony. (It’s because of) you singing that alto part. …You were the reason , it’s one of the main reasons why I am here right now.”
“Thank you,” Tanya replied. “OK, now I’m crying. …Now, you do all that and then I’m crying.”
Tanya and Michael went on to share the story of how they met, their passion for songwriting, the meaning behind their album title, Plus One, and more. The duo’s 18-track album arrived on Valentine’s Day. They filled the record with “life-affirming songs aimed at providing a shared experience of hope and healing and much-needed joy,” per a previously-issued press release from the duo’s record label.
