Old Dominion released the latest track from âour most personal record ever.â
The band â made up of Matthew Ramsey, Trevor Rosen, Whit Sellers, Geoff Sprung, and Brad Tursi â debuted âWater My Flowersâ on Friday (June 6). Ramsey, Rosen, Jerry Flowers and Jordan Reynolds teamed up to write the song, which appears on Old Dominionâs upcoming 13-track album, Barbara.
âEvery night I close my eyes/ And pray for something I can hold on to/ Where she at, what do I gotta do/ Tell me, whoâs gonna water my flowers/ Whoâs gonna cry my name/ When they lay me down in the cold hard ground/ And I meet my higher power/ Whoâs gonna water my flowersâ
âBut when we write for Old Dominion, especially this time, weâre bringing more of ourselves into the room,â the award-winning group wrote in an Instagram caption when they announced Barbara earlier this week. âThese are our songs, so they should be pulled from our lives. You donât realize as youâre writing necessarily, but when we listened to these 13 songs, we all realized: itâs our most personal record ever.â
Ramsey and his bandmates said âweâre excited for you to meetâ Barbara as they introduced her to fans. The groupâs frontman said âwhen youâre bringing something to life, youâre always trying to come up with the right name. Sometimes youâre waiting for the right moment to speak to you. You finally land on what the name is, and once we found out it was a girl, then Barbara became the name. If it was a boy, it would be Carl. The album is Barbara. âŚSheâs beautiful and weâre excited for you to meet her.â
âWater My Flowersâ joins âMaking Good Timeâ and âMe Most Nights,â which Old Dominion released in February and April, respectively. Barbara will add to a growing list of projects from the reigning Country Music Association Vocal Group of the Year and Academy of Country Music Group of the Year, following Meat and Candy (2015), Happy Endings (2017), Old Dominion (2019), Time, Tequila & Therapy (2021) and Memory Lane (2023).
Barbara will arrive on August 22. Listen to âWater My Flowersâ here:
