A “young English woman” found out that she’d been duped, and that the “lord” she thought she was about to marry was really a scammer. Megan Clark is a 27-year-old bar manager on the Isle of Wight, and she was swept off her feet when Lord Bertie Underwood sauntered into her life. Underwood claimed to be a descendant of the owner of the Underwood Typewriter company and appeared to Clark to be a “modern-day aristocrat.”
- Within five months, he’d talked her into moving in with him and becoming his wife, so she quit her job
- The truth started to come out when mail started coming to the house with a name other than his, which is said must’ve been for a “previous tenant”
- Then, there was his office, which was filled with credit cards in other people’s names
- From there, Clark went to Google and found all those names were aliases of Robert Madejski, a “convicted fraudster” who bore a striking resemblance to her beloved Lord Underwood
- This all happened just two weeks before they were to be married, but not before she learned that he’d already put her $40K in debt, and she couldn’t even sell her engagement ring…because it was fake
