CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Charleston Police say the bicyclist struck early Wednesday morning on the Cosgrove Bridge died of his injuries.

A Chrysler Town and Country minivan was traveling north in the left lane of the Cosgrove Bridge and struck an adult male bicyclist, Police spokesman Charles Francis said.

EMS took the cyclist to MUSC where he died, Francis said.

Dispatch received the initial call about the accident at 4:58 a.m.

Investigators remained on scene for several hours collecting evidence.

The collision remains under investigation with no criminal charges filed, Francis said.

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the identity of the cyclist.

Shortly before 7:30 a.m., authorities reopened the multiple lanes of the bridge that had been closed and cleared the scene.
