The Red Cross assists families after home fire

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCSC) - TheAmerican Red Cross says their disaster-trained volunteers are assisting six Summerville families whose homes were damaged by a fire.

The Dorchester County Fire Department responded to the blaze on Sunny Side Way Wednesday, the Red Cross said in a statement.

By providing financial assistance for food, clothing, lodging, other essentials and comfort kits containing personal hygiene items The Red Cross says they are helping 19 people in the damaged neighborhood.

The organization says people can donate by visitingredcross.org, calling 1-800-RED-CROSS, or texting the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
