Chase Rice on being pulled into that cruel twist on 'The Bachelor'

Chase Rice, known for his hit 'Eyes on You', was excited to perform on ABC's 'The Bachelor' to promote his latest single 'Lonely If You Are' and his 2020 album The Album, Pt. 1. The show averages at about 6 million views per episode, so this seemed like the perfect opportunity for the singer-songwriter. However, this appearance did not go as he planned. While Rice thought this segment would be a simple performance for a cute and drama-free date, 'The Bachelor' producers had a different idea under their sleeve. Bachelor star Peter Weber took his date, Victoria Fuller to Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio for a romantic and intimate amusement park one-on-one date during which they were set to enjoy a private concert by country artist Chase Rice, as many Bachelor dates go. But the episode took a twist when contestant Victoria Fuller and singer Chase Rice locked eyes and both froze.

As the date continued, viewers cringed at the uncomfortable moment between Rice and Fuller, while Webber unknowingly and merrily danced along to the music.

Rice knew Victoria Fuller, his ex, was going to be on the show but he refused to believe the producers would stir him into this drama. Rice commented to The Washington Post, “I was like, ‘Nah, they’re not going to involve me in this. There’s no way.” Weber and Rice chatted after the performance and Rice politely didn't mention his past with Victoria Fuller. When Fuller and Weber got the chance to later sit down and talk, Fuller confessed about their past relationship. Eventually, everyone was able to laugh off the uncomfortable interaction. Although Rice was still not happy with the position the producers put him in, he is hoping this can just become another way to bring viewers to his music.

“It just seemed really unnecessary to be honest, but at the end of the day, if it brings people back to the album, brings people back to ‘Lonely If You Are,’ then, hell, I’m happy,” Rice said. “I don’t care how it happens.”
