The 2021 Grammy Awards has been postponed due to coronavirus concerns.
One of the biggest award shows in the music industry was set to take place on January 31. Due to the rising infection numbers in the state of California and specifically in Los Angeles, the event will now take place on March 14.
"Nothing is more important than the health and safety of those in our music community and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly on producing the show," said a statement from the Recording Academy.
The Grammy's new date now clashes with a previously-announced Screen Actors' Guild Awards.
"We announced the same date for the SAG Awards last July with the intent to give the greatest possible scheduling consideration for other awards shows," it said in a statement. "We expect the same consideration from sister organizations throughout the industry." The actors union is extremely disappointed in this re-scheduled date and are in conversation with the Recording Academy in order to resolve this conflict. Other major ceremonies, including the Oscars, the Golden Globes and the Brit Awards have already been postponed.
The US state of California has been particularly hard hit by the spread of coronavirus, with ambulance workers in Los Angeles County being told not to transport patients with extremely low chances of survivalto hospital.
Country artists Miranda Lambert, Little Big Town, Brandy Clark and many more are all nominated in this years event.
