In Baltimore, Maryland, a charity group called 4MyCity is making a big impact on families in the area as students are going back to school -- by connecting 5,000 of those families with school supplies that the kids need.
The group’s founder -- Chris Dipnarine -- says some of the supplies will also go to teachers, who often have to spend their own money to supply basic stuff like pencils to their classrooms.
Last year, 4MyCity was able to assemble 2,600 backpacks, filled with Sharpies, pens, colored pencils and binders. And this year, it looks like they’re going to double that amount -- and include face masks and hand sanitizer in in every bag.
Chris was inspired to start this effort because he recognized that many parents need a little extra help, especially at this time of year. And, giving the kids these supplies sets them up for success in the school year ahead -- and ends up being one less thing that the parents have to worry about.
